The passing of Jean Anderson in early January, 2016 was very sad news for the Stewards, Committee and members of the Banks Peninsula Trotting Club of which she had been the Patron for a number of years. She also served on the Committee for many years previously and, in latter years while on the Committee, she was the Vice President of the Club.
Jean lived in Charteris Bay and had a strong interest in farming and in addition she had a real passion for the harness racing industry and in particular the Banks Peninsula Trotting Club.
Over many years she has owned and raced a number of horses which were mainly trained by either of her good friends Luk Chin or the late Derek Jones. She was more aligned to trotters, with the best of these being the outstanding trotter “Ray”, trained by Tim Butt.
Up until the time her ailing health prevented her from driving to Motukarara, there would be very few, if any, race meetings of the BPTC that she would not attend. She was a strong stalwart of the Club.
Jean will be remembered in a tangible way by “Jean’s Tote”, situated at the western end of the course, which was named in her honour many years ago. However, and more importantly , she will be remembered as someone who made a substantial contribution to the Banks Peninsula Trotting Club through her strong commitment, passion, generosity and loyalty. All of which was done with elegant grace.
Jean will be sorely missed but fondly remembered by her many friends in the harness racing industry.
