2021/22 Club Competition after Round 5, Sunday 20 March
27 March 2022
With just one meeting to go on Easter Monday 18th April, our club competition leaderboards show clear leaders in the Trainers’ and Drivers’ categories, with close finishes in store for the other divisions.
In the McMillans Feedbarn Trainer of the Year competition, Robert Dunn and Jenna Dunn (33 points) remain in front despite not fielding a team last Sunday. Fred Fletcher (18) takes second place with Paris Prince’s win, while Greg and Nina Hope (17) were the big movers after a good day at the office. Gavin Smith stayed in equal third while Graeme Telfer (15) dropped from second to fifth. The race is won for the Dunn partnership, meaning successive wins for Robert.
In the Trainers’ UDR comp sponsored by Seahorse Supplements (minimum four starters), Graeme Telfer has been overtaken by Jim Curtin and Gavin Smith. Jim’s three winners from just four starters, including Gana on Sunday, gives him an impressive .7500 rating. A second with Gronkowski gave Gavin valuable points to take him into second on 06222, while January’s success story Graeme holds third with an unchanged .4630. The Dunns are in fourth on .4028. This competition is tight enough for anything to happen on the final day of the season.
The Junior Drivers’ race, supported by Lindsay & Judith Blackmore and Fred & Fay Fletcher, continues to be very competitive. Sam Thornley’s double on Sunday jumps him into the lead on 17 points, closely followed by the consistent Sarah O’Reilly (15) with previous leader Korbyn Newman staying right in the hunt on 14. Mark Hurrell also picked up points to stay in fourth on 13, while perennial champ Ben Hope (10) is mathematically within reach with a good last day of racing.
The Famous Grouse Lincoln Drivers’ comp leaderboard continues its familiar look, with John Dunn’s win on Bettorlini taking him to 72 points and stretching his lead over Blair Orange to a massive 28. Robbie Close (34) had a great day with two wins taking him into third, followed by Leo O’Reilly (25) who also scored on the day. But this race is past the post.
In the Phoebe Stud-sponsored Filly/Mare of the Year competition, Sophia Bromac’s ultra-consistency sees her maintain her lead on 10 points. The pack is close behind however, led by Awesome Impee (9) and Maren Franco (8). Mathematically there are still twenty horses in this race and there will be great interest in the Easter Monday fields when they are declared.
